PROJECT BACKGROUND

Early days
Early BEMS units have been tested in some different car makes and models over the years. It started with a Peugeot 205. Later the beautiful Beetle got a brain and some extra muscles! See the pictures:

A PC is used to calibrate the BEMS unit.

The VW Bus also had a go with BEMS ECU. That was a GREAT bus.
The Lancia Delta Integrale Evo has been tried with a BEMS unit. You have got to love this car...

A really nice car.

The main reason for running BEMS in the Lancia was to get the emission values to be ok with the modern emission laws. Back in the early 90's the limits where not as hard as today.

An idea
BEMS got a lot of useful experience from these projects. Note that the Volkswagens did not have injector engines to start with! The thought of a ECU that could fit in to any car was born. It should also be easy to calibrate from a computer and be ready for a lot of different environments. Hence the BEMS project.

Focus
As for now we focus on racing cars/trucks. Here we have to have top performance, and the ECU has to be ready for huge modifications to the engine. Turbo, compressor, air intake, cylinder volume, the number of cylinders etc. -anything could change! Then the ECU must be easily updated to again deliver maximum power from the engine in the new environment. This is fun.
